dfors Tip of the Day #1 better looking : )

Hey!!
Been thinking that I would start some tip and thoughts of the day, thinking back to the plays we have had, and problems I have seen people do. I will not try to hang anyone out here, I am here to help.
But sometimes I need to reference people and sitatuions. So dont take it offensive (pussies).

Thoughts of the day! 02/08/2007

Defense, if we ever gonna be stepping this game up, we need to focus a lot on the defense. Defense needs to step it up and be more aggressive on the ball and the offense.

Here is some scenarios and what to do:

2 on 2

The defense closest to the ballholder, WILL go straight at him, covering from the "home" side of the court, not the away side. Use your body to cover the guy (no arms or hands) and keep the stick on the floor, stretched out.
I usually keep my body 70% on one side of the player, and the stick around on the 30% side, that way you lock him in..
By doing this you will cover a shot, either with feet or stick and also keeping him from running through you.
As you run to cover this guy, you WILL let everyone else in the team know that you do, by simple screaming "I got ball" or "I got XXXX".
That way, the other defense can focus on the other player. Hopefully this will stop up the game, forcing the offense to pass back to defense and our guys can come back. As we are all back and lined up, the offense starts the pushing and pressure.

2 on 1

In a counter attack, 2 against 1, ALWAYS focus on the guy NOT carrying the ball. Let the goalie take care of the shot. Keep your stick on the floor, and your EYES on the player. Trust me, you will see on him if the ball comes his way and you can then act..

Summary: we need to be more aggressive, get to the ball, let the others no, NEVER hesitate. I saw a lot of hesitations yesterday, giving the offense a couple of more seconds to do the move, and they usually scored or get a good shot of. And dont rely on that anyone else is gonna go, you go and let them know..
Communication is the key here...

ok, that was todays first tip..
Tips, ideas, questions, feedback is welcome.. if noone reads and like this, I will not write them. YOU tell me, I am here for YOU guys...
Also, feel free to post questions about the game here as well, rules, situations you wanna know how to handle and so on..
